5G network accelerates artificial intelligence (AI) application in the Internet of things (IoT) area such as autonomous vehicles, delivery drones, VR/AR, HD Streaming, smart factories, smart city, etc. AI learning, computing and operation become more synchronous and agile with ultra-low latency, ultra-reliable, high bandwidth, and high-speed connection.

 

Mainstream IoT technologies are home or workplace-based applications interconnected by smart devices. These applications feature short to medium range linkage, ultra-low latency, and diversified service. To access more smart applications, 5G IoT ISP is being urged on the bandwidth. There exist three routes to increase bandwidth by using SDM, TDM, and WDM. SDM is space division multiplexing technology, using more fibers for distribution with MIMO. However, fiber cores and regional fiber resources are limited and demand high CPAX and OPEX. TDM is time-division multiplexing (TDM) technology, using synchronous transmission. TDM offers extra bandwidth by data packaging over existing fiber resources but features high latency and is not suitable for IoT access. Endly, service providers pay more attention to wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) technology taking advantage of high bandwidth, fewer fiber demands, and low latency.

 

25GBASE DWDM is a common scenario of WDM technology in 5G IoT, using 40 individual light waves of C-Band ranging between C21 - C60 and offering a total capacity of near one Tbps. 25GBASE DWDM allows IoT service providers to access up to 40 individual applications on-site, each of 25GBASE bandwidth, with existing fiber resources.

 

Top-Trans TDM-SFP28-ER-XX transceivers are designed for 5G IoT, using C-Band wavelength ranging between C21-C60 Channels to create the fiber link up to 40KM via dual SMF. It is fully compliant with 25G SFP28 DWDM MSA and CPRI/eCPRI standards, using DWDM DFB and APD Receivers. It supports the protocol of 25GBASE and CRRI Option 10 (24.33 Gbps).
